It is proven that saturated fat and cholesterol in the food make your blood cholesterol level rise. Saturated fat is the main culprit,  but cholesterol in foods also play a role. Therefore, reducing the quantity of saturated fat and cholesterol in your diet helps lower your blood cholesterol level.

Medication used to lower your cholesterol are more effective when combined with a proper diet. Thus they are meant to supplement, not restore, a low-saturated fat, low-cholesterol diet. Try to eat less fatty foods (especially those high in saturated fat) and replace part of the saturated fat in your diet with unsaturated fat. Eat less high-cholesterol food by eating high in complex carbohydrates with starch and fiber.
