High Cholesterol

High Cholesterol is a common phenomena in today's age. High cholesterol has been identified as the main culprit in increasing the risk of heart diseases.

Cholesterol is a substance produced by the human liver and aids in the build up of acids that help with the digestion of the fat that we consume. Cholesterol is also supposed to build and repair cells and is also part of the process to produce estrogens and the testosterone hormone.

Cholesterol plays an important role in the human body, but on the other hand can put your health in danger? As with all things in life, too much of a good thing can become a problem, as is with cholesterol. An excess of LDL has been proven to clog up arteries which again can lead to strokes and heart attacks.

Symptoms of high cholesterol are not always visible. A blood test is needed to identify high Cholesterol appropriately. However, if diagnosed with certain medical conditions it could be a sign of high Cholesterol. Those medical conditions include (but are not limited to) coronary disease, vascular disease or even a stroke.

When your blood test shows that your cholesterol levels are too high, your doctor will  recommend immediate action. Depending on the severity of the problem this can be a special diet combined with physical exercise or probably the use of medication. Overall the patient should start using a low Cholesterol diet and plan doing this for the long term
